ince August 2001, Christ Church Santa Fe held Sunday worship services in the Santa Fe Community College student center. In the fall of 2006 the church purchased two buildings on 5.4 acres of land formerly owned and occupied by Capital Christian Church. Capital Christian has since built a new school and worship center on Richard's Avenue named "The Light at Mission Viejo." With the new property, Christ Church Santa Fe is perfectly situated to minister to the very heart of Santa Fe, what we call Viaje de los Corazones ("Journey of the Hearts"). By mid-November 2007, the construction crew completed the transition from demolition to full-on building and a few of the new church's beautiful architectural details, including curved walls and tall spires, dominated the job site. A highlight of fall construction activities was the placement of a 7-ton (!) steel beam in the sanctuary roof, which supports the original wooden ceiling beams and stabilizes the building's lateral movement. The beam arrived in New Mexico in two pieces, was welded together at Albuquerque Steel, and transported to the building site on a semi as a 67-foot single unit. Church staff and onlookers watched with joy as a crane hoisted the great beam into place. The "redeemed" sanctuary, now known as the Worship Arts Center, and its grounds opened for services in June 2008. The Mosaic Building's offices and conference room will eventually move to the administrative wing of the Worship Arts Center.
